BSc in Internet Technologies
Use of the Internet, and more specifically the World Wide Web, has developed at an enormous pace in recent years. The computer industry has turned almost upside down in its approach to the development and implementation of systems. Most development now makes use of the Internet at some level and the skills being demanded by industry are those surrounding the deployment and use of Internet and WWW based systems.
The BSc in Internet Technologies provides you with a wide range of experiences geared specifically to developing knowledge and skills for employment in this burgeoning job market.
New job titles are still appearing in this area, but amongst those already well established and most appropriate for graduates from this programme are Web Designer and Web Administrator. However, you might also comfortably take on such roles as Network Manager or Telecommunications Advisor
Another feature that will help your employment prospects is the Department's accreditation to deliver Vendor Qualification training.
The programme is designed around a set of core themes essential for the Internet professional, namely: Internet and WWW; data communications and networking; databases; and project management
Level 4
The core modules at this level comprise software design, data-communications and networking technologies, office applications and the Internet. In addition you study human-computer interaction and systems analysis.
Level 5
Your programming and scripting skills are developed are these are complemented with study of the principles and practice of database systems, rapid application development and website production. You undertake a short period of work based learning where you develop gain first-hand knowledge of current practices in industry.
Level 6
Core modules cover the operation and management of networks and data-communication systems, advanced database techniques and engineering of websites. You choose a number of option modules in subjects of particular personal interest and undertake a major individual development project. In this project you to research one particular aspect of web technology and to apply it to a specific situation. You receive both group and individual guidance in your choice of project, and work with a personal supervisor to ensure that the project 'stays on track' and achieves its aims.
