BSc/BA Combined Honours in Computing
This newly introduced Warrington programme is a particularly good choice for Combined Honours students who do not want to get involved in the more technical aspects of computing such as programming but do want to develop a computing skill-set that is attractive to employers.
Knowledge of information technology and computing improves communication with colleagues, associates, and the public, and helps people to solve problems and make decisions, to elect appropriate technologies and software, and to systematically manage information. The professional and technical skills developed in this programme are highly valued by employers, who know that the effective application of ICT skills can enhance an organisation’s performance, help it to meet its goals and give it a competitive edge. All organisations welcome the flexibility that a graduate with computing knowledge and exposure can demonstrate. The growth of fast Internet-based communications has created new computing opportunities such as online retailing using electronic shop-fronts, online advertising through online TV and radio. Companies advertising and selling on the Internet need data-driven websites and fast, attractive systems, as well as the ability to manage projects, from brochures and catalogues to websites. Graduates will be prepared for a career in this exciting field of Internet-based applications in their discipline. Creative skills are developed together with the advanced technical knowledge required to design and develop applications.
A solid foundation of computing expertise is essential for successful professional activity in many fields. Combined Computing explores a wide range of computing topics and is ideal for those who have a strong interest in the design and development of technology and information systems in the context of their other discipline. The range of careers that can be followed also increases with this breadth of study.
The subjects with which Computing can be combined at Warrington are: Advertising, Business, Commercial Music Production, Events Management, Film Studies, Graphic Design, Journalism, Management, Marketing, Media Studies, Public Relations, Radio Production, Sport Development and TV Production.
